Ice on the Lake
Jan 26, 2009 - 8:46 PM - Long time since my last post. I have not been out fishing at all...
Art and I have talked about the notion of going ice fishing, but I really do not have the gear to hit the big lake in a safe fashion during the winter. Those posers at the French River in the fall - the ones who said they are shore fishing year round - are so full of it. We headed to the French a few weeks ago and there was not even a single sign of a human having been on the beach. The snow was knee deep.
On the way home from work today, I noticed this guy (photo to the right) out on the ice. This was taken just south of 21st Avenue. You can generally tell the people who are confident and the ones who are pragmatic and safe. The other day, there were a load of these houses out on the ice, but several also had canoes with them. If the ice breaks loose -- without a canoe, you could end up in a lot of trouble.
